After a successful appearance at the global film festival, the Canadian distributor Indiecan Entertainment invites the public to experience the beauty and trauma of being a world-class athlete starting January 27 with the Free Skate game. Roope OleniusThe film is written by the protagonist Veera W. Vilo about her own experiences as a gymnast, the similar experiences of her colleagues, and the disturbing stories of female athletes and dancers that came to light after the start of the #metoo movement. Following its theatrical release, Free Skate will be available on multiple digital and cable platforms in North America, including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, iNDemand and DISH, beginning February 28, 2023.
Ahead of the Los Angeles premiere, Olenius shared: “The film not only discusses the practical methods, psyche and human rights of athletes, but also highlights the unfortunate connection between women’s sports and human trafficking, which we have become increasingly aware of after the athletes. the rise of the #metoo movement. Our goal was to make a European sports film that not only glorifies the sport, but dares to dig deeper into the existence of a person in the sometimes overly stressful professional sport.”

A young and promising Russian figure skater is found beaten and frozen on a highway in Finland. At the hospital, the authorities find a letter among his belongings and are able to reconnect him with his Finnish grandmother, whom he has not seen for years. With the help of her grandmother, whose home offers her refuge, the figure skater tries to rebuild herself and recover from the trauma and inhumane conditions that forced her to flee Russia. He finds a new chance with top skating, but despite a bright future, new friends and opportunities, his past won’t let him go. The figure skater realizes that facing her troubled past is the only way to reach the top.
