Nefarious (2023) Film Review | Movie-Blogger.com

If we’re sometimes willing to let a few things go and forget about normality and even decency when watching horror movies, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy them It’s mean. The filmmakers behind it are known for popular Christian-based franchises, and they have some plot points, but the film doesn’t go for propaganda in plot construction. Of course, we could do without the ending, but the point is that here is a well-made film. Objectively, we can’t deny its production value, some good performances, and the confident look of a horror film that delivers its message to its very specific target without scares or spilled guts.
Sean Patrick Flannery he plays a convicted serial killer who must be evaluated by a psychiatrist on the day of his execution. The guy in charge of the case commits suicide, so Dr. James Martin replaces him. Everything seems normal until the killer reveals that he is actually a vile creature. What follows is a… conversation. Nefarious indicates that before their session ends, Martin commits three murders. Their speech leads to something like that, but it’s not as literal as it sounds. Demons can be deceptive, as we have seen them countless times.
I don’t deal with the politics of the film, because everyone can do that on their own. I guess you can enjoy horror sometimes if it forces you enough to root for the good guys, or in my case, the bad guys. This is a possessive film that doesn’t go for visual effects or scary sound design to make us believe that Nefarious means business. Sometimes it just depends on what you say. Personally, I wanted the audience to have doubts about whether or not she was actually possessed. A specific sequence in the third act confirms this.
Flannery is good enough that I remember her better performances, but in this play she actually reaches the end without losing control. In fact, its gravity is essential to it Jordan BelfiMartin must commit. He plays an obsessed serial killer whose true personality is hidden by a clever entity whose messages are quite interesting. Is the answer all about “diversity”? Classic Demon Mysteries.
Try. Maybe you’ll like it or hate it. But anyway, that’s for you to decide, and not because someone told you online.
