Directed, written and produced by SAVI THE CAT Bryan Tucker and Netsanet Tjirongo. This heartwarming short film tells the story of the highs and lows of being a first-time cat owner. It was selected from more than 8,000 entries at the OSCAR-qualifying Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

When a devoted Kenyan husband surprises his new black American wife with an adorable kitten, neither of them are prepared for the devastation it wreaks on their home, their lives, and ultimately their marriage.

Netsanet Tjirongo is an Emmy-nominated Ethiopian-Namibian filmmaker, educator and community organizer. Primarily associated with documentary and narrative filmmaking, her work focuses on the intersections of gender, race, sexuality, and immigration status. Netsanet is passionate about representing and empowering the next generation of storytellers and currently serves as the Director of Education for the Northwest Film Forum.

Bryan Tucker is a three-time regional Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker. Bryan has worked on a wide range of documentary, non-profit and commercial projects in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, including VICE, PBS, Seattle Seahawks, Yoga Behind Bars and The Guardian to name just a few. His most recent documentary short, Flat Town, aired nationally on PBS’s “Reel South”.

SAVI THE CAT plays at Tribeca on Sunday, June 11, Thursday, June 15 and Saturday, June 17.
